This Drag Queen and Elementary School Principal Has A History of Child Sex Crimes
Parents are now threatening to pull their children out of the school district.
As national outrage over the rising popularity of drag performances for children continues to rise, an Oklahoma elementary school principal has come under fire over his side gig as a drag artist and history of child sex crimes.
Shockingly, the board of trustees to Western Heights Public Schools was aware of Shane Murnan’s history when they hired him, and has staunchly defended doing so.
After the social media account Libs of TikTok exposed Murnan’s incredibly questionable personal history, the district defended his employment.
“We understand the situation may cause concerns and questions among parents, staff, and community members,” the district said in a statement, insisting that “usual hiring practices” were followed and that a felony background check had been performed.
Parents are now threatening to pull their children out of the school district.
Reduxx reports that while Murnan has been working in education for 25 years, somehow his arrest for possession of drugs and child sexual material, as well as separate charges of drunk driving, never effected his career in the public school system.
“This afternoon, the Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. Shane Murnan for the position of Principal at John Glenn Elementary School. The district recently learned about previous office charges that were dismissed more than 20 years ago,” the school district wrote on Facebook in June when he was hired.
“Dr. Murnan has been serving the field of education for over 25 years and has an excellent reputation.. It is highly recommended by previous supervisors, colleagues and educators.”
This “reputation,” Reduxx explains, was somehow never marred by his 2002 felony charges over images in his possession that appeared to show children engaged in sex acts (the charges were later dropped, although a judge nonetheless confirmed he doubtlessly was in possession of child sexual abuse material). Murnan resigned from his position as a teacher at Will Rogers.
It was around this time that he began performing in drag under the stage name Shantel Mandalay.
In 2007, he was hired by a separate elementary school, later moving to the school system up to the position of Assistant Principal. All the while, he continued his drag career, even using his Shantel Mandalay Facebook page to share school-related content.
Unsurprisingly, Muran also founded an Oklahoma City Drag Queen Story Hour and read to children himself while dressed in drag.
In 2020, he was arrested after being pulled over in his vehicle and found to be extremely intoxicated.
