The Chinese Communist Party Is Rewriting the Holy Bible
The CCP wants to make sure its version of the Holy Scriptures glorifies communism
As part of its aggressive attempt to “sinicize” religion, the Chinese Communist Party has been engaged in a rewrite of the Holy Bible to adjust it to its own ideological aims.
One shocking example, as previewed in a Chinese university textbook in 2020, has Jesus stoning the adulterous woman in the Gospel of John, as opposed to the true story in the text which records Jesus challenging the Pharisees to “let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
This, as Rep. Mike Gallagher recently wrote in an op-ed for Fox News, looked too much like a dissident challenging authority to the CCP.
Meanwhile, churches in China have been forced to make adjustments to CCP demands, such as replacing the 10 Commandments with quotes from President Xi Jinping.
"’Thou shalt have no other gods before Me,’ became diktats like: ‘Resolutely guard against the infiltration of Western ideology,’” Gallagher writes.
At the 19th Party Congress, Xi, who has overseen an increased effort to squelch religious activities in China that are not approved by the state, declared: “We will… insist on the sinicization of Chinese religions, and provide active guidance for religion and socialism to coexist."
What is particularly striking about this is that the Chinese people are supposedly ensured the right to freedom of religion.
Unlike the Soviets, the Chinese have feigned support for religious practices — but this twisted “Sinicization,” which includes everything from their efforts to rewrite the Bible and the Quaran to demanding that they be allowed to select the next Dalai Lama, is how they can get away with claiming to “allow” religion.
It is a stark reminder that in the United States, the government doesn’t guarantee us freedom of religion; rather, the government is prohibited from preventing us from exercising our own.
Let us never forget what a valuable right this is, nor stop fighting to make sure it is preserved.
Meanwhile, let us pray for our faithful brothers and sisters in China!
