Revival Surges in Taiwan in the Face of Aggression From China
“It's an unprecedented prayer movement.”
As China continues its aggression in the Pacific, with the contested island nation of Taiwan squarely in the crosshairs, an unprecedented revival movement is sweeping across the land.
China’s repressive government, which has been in the throes of outward expansion for years, has long considered Taiwan to be part of China and uses aggressive rhetoric against foreign figures who refer to Taiwan as independent.
If China were to use military aggression to enforce its perceived authority in the nation, the United States under President Joe Biden has strongly signaled it would come to the aid of Taiwan, a move which could prompt global war.
In the midst of this tension international conflict, Taiwanese Christians have been praying and fasting in unseen numbers.
"The united prayers and fasting prayers of the churches in Taiwan are much more than ever before. It's an unprecedented prayer movement," Pastor Brian Lu recently told CBN News.
Prayer groups have been gathering around the island for 24 hours at a time, praying for revival, repentance, and national unity.
"I believe something so simple is starting to have such a huge impact upon people in the church and also the people around the church," church leader Gordon Huang also told the outlet.
Huang fears that war with China is close at hand, and wants believers to be prepared.
"I think one thing for sure is that people are going to be so shaken and people will want to hear the Gospel. Are you ready or are you going to be on the run yourself?" he said.
Rev. Peter Yang, who has been planting churches in Taiwan since 1978, says he has never seen such interdenominational unity.
"What's happening today is so rare," he explained. "Every day, every week, I join pastors from other churches, other denominations, and we pray for our cities, for our nation for other countries. It's amazing, it's clearly God's doing. Unity will be the legacy of this movement."
Let us join the Taiwanese people in prayer as we lift up the entire international body of Christ in these trying and unprecented times of global conflict and turmoil.
What an awesome movement of the Holy Spirit and unity in Christ! An amazing thing we could use here too!
