Report from Western North Carolina
Hope, faith, and the power of community in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene
Our nation has been left reeling in shock and mourning as the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene continues to unfold, revealing vast destruction, infuriating government incompetence, and unfathomable loss.
The heartbreaking stories emerging from the affected areas are a sobering reminder of the storm's fury, but they also showcase the incredible resilience and power of the human spirit.
As we reflect on the relief efforts underway, we want to express our deepest gratitude to our supporters who have rallied around this cause. Your initial donations of $10,000 enabled us to send a team to Western North Carolina, where they delivered essential supplies to those affected by the hurricane.
Led by Elizabeth, the team of 12 brave individuals witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the storm. Neighborhoods were reduced to rubble, with downed power lines, trees, and mud blocking streets and homes. Despite the challenging conditions, the team persevered, canvassing an elderly neighborhood to check on residents and provide aid. One poignant moment stood out – an elderly woman asked for help braiding her hair, sparking a powerful moment of connection and storytelling. Elizabeth cherished this moment, saying it was her favorite part of the day.
As the team continued their relief efforts, they met a man who tearfully expressed gratitude for their arrival, having prayed for help. The team prayed with him, learning of his recent cancer diagnosis. In a trailer park, Elizabeth and her team prayed with a couple who had given birth to a baby the night before the hurricane, offering support and encouragement.
Thanks to your continued generosity, we have raised over $20,000, enabling us to send a second team of 40 people and six chainsaw crews to Western North Carolina. We are still accepting donations to support our ongoing relief efforts.
As we continue to pray for the victims of Hurricane Helene and those affected by Hurricane Milton in Florida, we are reminded that our faith in the Lord is our greatest source of strength and hope. No weapon formed by man or nature will ever prosper against people whose faith is in the Lord!
