Planet Fitness Faces Backlash After Viral Photo of “Queer” Man in Women’s Locker Room
The company is getting the “Bud Light treatment” as its value tanks by $400 million as the fallout over the viral photo continues
Planet Fitness, the gym chain famous for its promise to deliver a No Judgment Zone, is feeling the heat financially after a woman’s membership was canceled over a photo she snapped of a man shaving in the women’s locker room went wildly viral.
Fox Business is reporting that Planet Fitness has seen its value tank by $400 million as consumers call for the company to get the “Bud Light treatment,” a reference to when the big name beer brand opted to sign on transgender TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney for an advertising campaign and saw its sales plummet.
Earlier this month, gym goer Patricia Silva revealed on social media that she had been in the locker room when she and other women — including a 12-year-old girl, she said — encountered a fully grown man who identified himself as “queer” shaving his face in one of the sinks.
Silva snapped a pic of the “transgender woman” as Fox Business identifies him and when Libs of TikTok caught wind of Planet Fitness’ treatment of Silva (whose membership was canceled for violating a policy against taking pictures in the locker room), the story blew up.
This week, the New York Post reported that Silva has been told Planet Fitness has assigned a staffer to accompany the “woman” into the locker room, where he has continued to shave unmolested as the staffer is reportedly informing women they can “go in a stall” if they’re uncomfortable with the man’s presence.
Isn’t this a fitting picture of what is happening to American women? We are being told we can sit on the sidelines, wait in the stalls, and take second-place trophy if we have an issue with being made to share women’s spaces with men.
