Parents Outraged That School Forced Son to Read Trans Book to Younger Children
“They’re using 5th grade kids to indoctrinate kindergarten kids.”
Parents at a California elementary school are outraged after teachers forced their son to read a children’s book about transgender identity and then read it aloud to younger students.
Father Carlos Encinas told The UK’s Daily Mail that his 11-year-old son was assigned the book “My Shadow is Pink” by author Scott Stuart, in which he uses a child’s “shadow” as a heavy-handed metaphor for gender and sexual identity.
The 5th grader attends La Costa Heights Elementary School in Carlsbad, California.
It centers around a little boy whose shadow is pink while his heteronormative father’s is blue. “My shadow loves ponies and books and pink toys. Princesses and fairies and things not for boys,” one line of the book reads.
The book also says of another character, “Her shadow, she hides it. Her shadow likes girls.”
After Encinas’ son was given the book to read, his class was then informed that they would be reading it to the little kindergarteners in their buddy class.
“That’s actually where he felt the most uncomfortable. These little kids look up to them. They are with them twice a month,” the distressed father told the Mail.
When he and his wife took the matter to the school, however, administrators were more concerned about the impact that had been made when he shared his experience to social media.
“I was hoping that the call would be conciliatory or have some sort of a, ‘Maybe we could do better, you should have been notified.’ Zero. It was more about her trying to understand how my video was making their teachers feel unsafe,” Encinas, who said his wife is now being bullied by other parents, told the outlet.
Let’s pray for this family as they stand up to the ideologically tyrannical culture within the public school system and much of our country and world. We are all in this spiritual battle together!
