Over 4,000 People Baptized at California Beach Shown in “Jesus Revolution”
Pirate’s Cove was the site of thousands of baptisms during the Jesus Movement, as shown in the movie
Thousands of people were baptized at California’s Pirate Cove beach earlier this month in a scene harking back to the early days of the Jesus Movement, as shown in the recent film “Jesus Revolution.”
However, as organizers shared, the sheer number of those who showed up to be baptized on July 8 far surpassed any single event like those shown in the film.
Pastor Greg Laurie, whose story the film “Jesus Revolution” centers around, and Harvest Christian Fellowship organized the “Jesus Revolution Pirate's Cove Beach Baptism” just days after a stirring revival event, SoCal Harvest, where over 3,000 made professions of faith.
"We invited them all to this baptism," Laurie explained, as The Christian Post reported.
Laurie called the incredible turnout at the Pirate’s Cove event a “powerful work of the Holy Spirit” that harkens back to the events he witnessed in the 1970s.
"I was there and I was baptized myself at one of them," Laurie explained. "But this is different. First, it is much larger than anything we ever did. The line of people to be baptized was half a mile long and people waited patiently for 2 hours or more and they did not seem to mind one bit."
"We have held baptisms at Pirate's Cove but nothing we have done comes close to this event we just did. It may be the largest baptism in history,” he continued.
One of the people who showed up to be baptized was an 85-year-old man who had seen “Jesus Revolution” and decided to give his life to the Lord, something his family never expected to happen as Laurie recounted.
"His family could not believe it. One of them said, he is literally the last person they ever expected would come to Christ."
Laurie noted that Harvest will be following up with the attendants of the mass baptism to ensure they are plugged into a church community.
