Liberal bishop who blasted Trump says Christians can support abortion
The now-infamous Episcopalian bishop argued that the Gospel is consistent with a “woman’s right to choose”

Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde, the bishop who infamously turned an inaugural prayer sermon into a political attack on Trump last month, is in the news yet again for claiming that Jesus would have supported abortion.
This is not particularly surprising, considering she used a sermon meant to offer prayers for the incoming president to rail against his proposed policies on migrants and the LGBT, feeding into inflamed left-wing talking points.
During a recently unearthed appearance on “Face the Nation” in March of 2024, Budde claimed that Christians can maintain support for the “spectrum of life” while also backing a “woman’s right to choose.”
“I love the spectrum of life, I think you can be an adherent of the spectrum of life and still respect a woman’s right to choose…in reproductive health and including when to have an abortion in the early stages of pregnancy,” she said.
“So, I’ll just say that as a Christian I think that’s possible,” she continued. “Those who are the most in the Christian spectrum, to be most consistent, would have some very significant things to say about the way we treat our children, the way we face poverty in this country, the way we treat people when they’re imprisoned, the way we treat people at the end of Life.”
It is ironic to point to “consistency” in this context, as it is completely inconsistent to claim to care for people at all stages of life but not in their smallest and most vulnerable stage — in the womb.
Budde is doing what so many pro-aborts do, which is use vague, nebulous language to claim that Christians can support abortion and that Christians who don’t support progressive policies don’t care about lives beyond the womb.
In reality, Christian charities and churches help people of all walks of life, whether they are in the womb, carrying children, raising babies on limited means, struggling with poverty, loneliness, addiction, mental health issues, struggling to make it in a land that is not their own, fleeing from war, or countless other crises.
Progressives would have us believe that the only way to be caring and compassionate is to support open borders and government welfare programs — both of which arguably hurt more people than they help!
You can never claim to care about people along the full spectrum of life if you do not support unborn lives in the womb — much less can a person claim to be Christian and argue for the deliberate destruction of innocent unborn life.
This "Reverend" cannot show me in God's Word where the murder of the unborn is justified. She also cannot show me where living the homosexual lifestyle is justified in the infallible Word of God, nor can she justify standing in the pulpit spewing these abominations. She needs to search her heart and and ask if she is truly a born again follower of the Lord Jesus Christ...before it is too late!
Thou shalt not kill. “I knew you from before the womb!”
