A left-wing writer who is emphatically pro-abortion and pro-LGBT recently actually argued that the Democrats should style themselves as the “pro-porn” party to win back ground on the “free speech” platform and entice young men away from the Republicans.
I really wish I was joking.
In a bizarre commentary for The Nation that’s on par with a satire piece, writer Elie Mystal states that the Democrats should strategically embrace pornography, saying there’s “an opportunity here for the left to pick up the banner of free speech. An opportunity to become the ‘porn party.’”
Responding to the Supreme Court’s decision in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton, which upheld Texas’s requirement for age-verification on porn sites, Mystal called the tired old trope of Republican hypocrisy to make the case for embracing porn as a political strategy.
He slams the GOP for defending “racist and sexist crap on social media” while imposing restrictions on adult access to pornography, asserting: “Adults have a right to access porn … the government should have to meet the highest possible burden to justify blocking adult access to porn.”
Mystal claims that the Democrats could easily win back angry, disillusioned young men who care about seeing women’s breasts online, somehow managing to blend a despicably low view of men with an abhorrent lack of regard for the women whose objectification he’d like his party to exploit for political gain.
LifeSite, for its part observed quite rightly that, “This is the logical conclusion of sexual liberalism … What used to be whispered in defense of ‘consenting adults’ is now being shouted as a campaign strategy.”
The pro-life response piece warns that branding Democrats as the “porn party” crosses more than just a political line — it signals a deeper moral unraveling we can only agree too emphatically is the harsh reality of our culture today.
Mystal’s approach not only dismisses the well-documented harm pornography can inflict on marriages, families, and vulnerable individuals, but also reframes moral resistance as a tool of political manipulation by conservatives. He even seems to relish the controversy, saying, “Let them yell ‘porn party!’ on Fox News and TikTok all day.”
His callous dismissal of the dignity of women, victims of human trafficking, and addicts of the wickedly addictive explicit medium is almost too cold-hearted for words.
All Mystal cares about is political victory. But the opponents of pornography care about human lives. There is no right to exploit and traffic human dignity for a cheap, empty, pathetic excuse for sexual gratification. All the less so to stick it to your political opponents.
He is given over to a depraved mind!! Unbelievable!
Root of the word pornography. Literally means the devils pictures.
The evil one is salivating taking over the entire Democratic Party.
May they never have any power again.
