JK Rowling joins fight to protect the definition of "sex"
The author has donate a massive sum to a group challenging the UK Supreme Court to safeguard women's rights
Author and now-vocal critic of gender ideology JK Rowling has reportedly put a portion of her substantial fortune behind the efforts of a Scottish women’s group to fight attempts to redefine “sex” in United Kingdom law.
Rowling is best known for penning the Harry Potter series and is one of the most successful female authors and women in the world, but she has become embroiled in the center of heated controversy as she continuously refuses to kowtow to the progressive left’s dangerous gender ideology.
Now, the activist For Women Scotland has shared that the author put £70,000 behind its crowdfunding campaign to fight to convince the UK Supreme Court to preserve the definition of “sex” on the basis of biology rather than gender identity.
Last week, the organization issued a post on X thanking "all who are making this challenge possible - especially @jkrowling."
According to The Daily Mail, Rowling wrote to group organizers in a donation message, "You know how proud I am to know you. Thank you for all your hard work and perseverance. This is truly a historic case."
On the fundraiser campaign, For Women Scotland explains that it has been granted permission to be heard by the Supreme Court in a previous judicial ruling on its challenge to the definition of the word “woman” in the Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018.
“This legislation relies on definitions set out in the Equality Act 2010 and the judicial reviews have served to show that a definition of ‘sex’ that is inclusive of a person's ‘acquired gender’ on a Gender Recognition Certificate leaves the Equality Act opaque and unworkable for many women,” For Women Scotland explains.
“There needs to be clarity that sex is a biological term and while the UK Government recognises this, it is yet to take any remedial action in response to the second judicial review ruling,” the group adds.

A taxi driver in Germany is fighting against a fine he was issued over the placement of a Bible verse sticker on his cab which says, “Jesus — I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
While authorities in the city of Essen, Germany claimed that driver Jalil Mashali’s sticker constituted “religious advertising,” he and his representatives at ADF International argue that the sticker is an expression of his fundamental human rights to free expression.
"In a free society, the government should not be silencing peaceful expressions of faith," the organization’s Dr. Lidia Rieder explains, as reported by The Christian Post. "Jalil's actions are protected by the basic human right to freedom of religion, which includes the right to share one's deeply held convictions with others. The state must refrain from unjustly interfering with this freedom."
"The repercussions for Mashali are significant, with the possibility of dismissal as a taxi driver if he refuses to remove the text, as his car is deemed unfit for German roads," the ADF also notes.
Mashali, who was born in Iran and raised in a devout Muslim household but came to Christ after experiencing miraculous healing following the prayers of a Christian woman, received a notice in October 2023 threatening him with a fine of up to 1,000 euros over the sticker.
He has refused so far, subjecting him to further fines of over 80 euros.

Tennessee’s Republican governor has signed a law which protects the rights of individuals to refuse to “solemnize” a same sex “wedding.”
“A person shall not be required to solemnize a marriage if the person has an objection to solemnizing the marriage based on the person’s conscience or religious beliefs,” reads HB 878, which was passed by lawmakers earlier this month and signed by Governor Bill Lee last week.
“As societal views change about what constitutes a marriage, officiants must be able to refuse to solemnize marriages that are contrary to their beliefs,” Republican state Rep. Monty Fritts, who co-sponsored the bill, said during committee meetings on the bill, as LifeSiteNews notes.
“The government has a responsibility to protect the exercise of religious beliefs,” Fritts also said.
While the bill largely serves to reinforce preexisting law, LifeSiteNews also clarifies that it does not protect state clerks or other employees who refuse to issue “marriage” certificates to same-sex couples, such as Kentucky clerk Kim Davis who captured national attention in 2015 for refusing to violate her Christian conscience in her capacity as a state employee.
Although the state may seek to redefine the definition of the word “marriage,” the definition of this God-ordained institution will never change. It’s no coincidence that as marriage has been redefined, so has “woman.”
The basis of our religious liberties is the same as the basis for civil rights and women’s rights. We cannot expect to have any of these institutions for very long if we undermine their basic definitions.
