JK Rowling is right about child “gender transitions”
The “Harry Potter” author recently drew an apt comparison between “gender-affirming medicine” and this outdated medical practice
Although for all intents and purposes, “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling is a classical social liberal, she has been galvanized in recent years by the extreme backlash she’s faced over her politically incorrect opinion on transgender ideology.
While Rowling is one of the most successful, wealthy, and famous authors and women in all of human history, she has risked all her popular acclaim on more than one occasion by daring to speak the truth about the cruelty of so-called “gender-affirming” treatments, particularly for children.
Over the Christmas holiday, she went scorched earth, rightly comparing the practice to lobotomies.
It began when she shared her reaction to a peer-reviewed study on X published by “gender activist medics” which she characterize as using “obfuscatory language” to argue for redefining how we view successful medical treatment.
“We’re all used to the obfuscatory language gender activist medics and their cheerleader, insist upon. ‘Gender affirming care/treatment’ is so much nicer sounding than ‘sterilisation, surgical mutilation and provision of toxic drugs to troubled minors,'” Rowling explained.
“But this paper breaks new ground,” she continued. “It acknowledges that by the usual medical standards (‘old normal knowledge’) transitioning minors has not been found to be the unqualified success many have claimed. The proposed solution? Jettison the old knowledge. Redefine success.”
C. Douglas Golden of The Western Journal notes that she is not being hyperbolic—the study is indeed cloaked with obfuscatory language to make the point that, per his summary, “if current studies don’t show measurable improvement in kids who receive medical interventions for gender dysphoria, what we really need to do is redefine ‘improvement.’”
When one X user pushed back against Rowling’s critique of the study, she replied, “There are no trans kids. No child is ‘born in the wrong body.’”
“There are only adults like you,” she continued, “prepared to sacrifice the health of minors to bolster your belief in an ideology that will end up wreaking more harm than lobotomies and false memory syndrome combined.”
She noted that kids are logging on TikTok where they see surgeons “selling the idea that bodies can be modified like Lego,” while “Schools affirm kids’ trans identities behind parents’ backs.”
“Many parents are struggling to protect kids from a Zeitgeist telling them that anxieties about puberty, sexuality and growing up can be fixed by lifelong reliance on Big Pharma and by doctors who make Frankenstein look ethical.”
It is incredibly heartening to see someone of Rowling’s fame and intelligence addressing this grave exercise of medical malpractice, but the backlash she’s faced over the years speaks volumes as to just how influential and determined the radical gender theorists are.
Let her boldness and refusal to back down serve as an inspiration to all of us.
