Arsonist Caught on Camera Setting Fire to Canadian Catholic Church
Nearly 100 churches across Canada have been targeted with vandalism and arson over the last three years
An arsonist was caught on camera attempting to set a Catholic Church ablaze in the latest of such incidents in Canada.
The Blessed Sacrament Church in Regina, Saskatchewan shared the footage to its Facebook page earlier this month, noting that “Someone started a fire at the office entrance” of the historic church and to contact the Regina police or Crime Stoppers with any information.
The footage shows a perpetrator in a balaclava mask, carrying a duffle bag. Standing directly in front of a security camera, he dumps the contents of a can of gasoline around him as he looks over his shoulder.
The doorway goes up in flames as he runs off.
On February 17, police arrested 31-year-old man for the attempted attack on Blessed Sacrament Church.
CBC reported that the man was charged with “disregard for human life, disguise with intent and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.”
This incident comes following a series of vandalism and arson attacks on Catholic churches in Canada, along with some Anglican and Methodist Churches as well.
As The Christian Post noted, the attacks followed anger surrounding now-debunked reports that 750 bodies of indigenous people were found under a Catholic-run school in Saskatchewan.
