Alaska Airline fired Christian flight attendants over LGBT "Equality Act"
The employees allege the airline workers' union also threw them under the bus
A lawsuit alleges that two flight attendants were reported and fired over their views on the so-called Equality Act and the threat it may pose to religious freedom and women’s rights.
First Liberty Institute recently filed a motion for a summary judgment on behalf of their clients Marli Brown and Lacey Smith against Alaska Airlines and the Association of Flight Attendants union (AFA) alleging discrimination on the basis of religious beliefs and professional retaliation over personal views.
The accusations stem from a discussion in an internal company messaging board employees had been invited to participate in surrounding the Equality Act, proposed congressional legislation that would include sexual orientation and gender identities in federal anti-discrimination laws.
Opponents to the legislation warn that the protections for LGBT identities would result in discrimination against Christians and conservatives and strip women of necessary and hard-fought civil rights.
This was the sentiment expressed by Brown and Smith in the company message board as Brown, for example, asked her employer if it supported "endangering the Church, encouraging suppression of religious freedom, obliterating women rights and parental rights."
As The Christian Post reported, the incident resulted in an investigation that concluded with termination for the two women. The lawsuit accuses the AFA of retaliating against them for their views, with some union representatives expressing a desire that someone would “drop them in a well” and others calling them “bigots” and “pukes.”
AFA Master Executive Council President Jeff Peterson is accused of drawing Alaska Airlines’ attention to the women’s comments and professing to “hate” Smith.

Snow and ice could not stop an estimated 100,000 people from converging on the nation’s capital last week for the 51st annual March for Life.
The march comes ahead of what is likely to be a critical election season in which abortion is likely to be a top issue.
CBN News notes that since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, despite considerable gains in the fight to end abortion, every statewide referendum on abortion has failed, while every statewide initiative to expand abortion “rights” has passed.
Yet activists who have seen such a strong turnout at the March for Life each year feel more motivated than ever to change the narrative on abortion in the wake of this critical Supreme Court victory.
“We’re proud to be there every year en masse, you know, showing the nation that this generation rejects abortion and that we’re moving forward in our mission in this post-Roe world,” Students for Life American founder and president Kristan Hawkins told Christianity Today.
“Our goal is to see an end of abortion. To make abortion unthinkable and unavailable in our country. And that’s a two-fold goal,” she elaborated, “that requires cultural change, that requires practical and tangible support, that requires political change. And so you have to have all of those kind of cylinders firing at any given moment.”

Argentinian president Javier Milei, a quickly rising hero among conservatives in the western world, recently rebuked the “bloody abortion agenda” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
In a fiery speech to the gathering of globalists, Milei warned that "the Western world is in danger" thanks to "those who are supposed to have to defend the values of the West are co-opted by a vision of the world that … leads to socialism and thereby to poverty."
He went on to issue a scathing rebuke of the “radical feminist agenda” and notions that "we human beings damage the planet, which should be protected at all costs, even going as far as advocating for population control mechanisms or the bloody abortion agenda."
Milei, who was elected in November and assumed office in December, went on to detail the extent to which "Neo-Marxists have managed to co-opt the common sense of the Western world” which has been “achieved by appropriating the media, culture, universities and also international organizations."
The Christian Post notes that Milei’s libertarian La Libertad Avanza coalition held in its 2023 national election platform its commitment to "the defense of the right to life from conception,” which Milei told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson in an interview has not only a philosophical but also a “scientific” basis.
"As a libertarian, we believe that liberalism entails the unrestricted respect for the lives of others, rooted in a principle of non-aggression, and the defense of life, liberty and property," he told the conservative figure. "And if we cleave these ideas of liberty, one of the most fundamental aspects is to defend the right to life."
"It's the fact that life begins at conception," he explained. "It's at that very instant that a new being begins to evolve with its own unique DNA."
"While it's true that women have the right to their own bodies, the child in a woman's womb is not her body. That child is not her baby," he continued. "That makes abortion a murder, enabled and aggravated by a power imbalance against a child that has no way to defend itself."
As a consequence of what humans are doing to the planet, they promote the murder of people still in their mother's womb."
"It is a bloodthirsty policy in which some humans believe they should decide who should live and who should not," he asserted. "It's the utmost expression of hubris: how can a person decide who will live and who will not?"
